Pirates 1, Holgate Tigers 2

May 10, 2016 by Karen Donaldson

From Continental Pirates Facebook page, 5/9/16:
The Pirates traveled to Holgate tonight, and lost a heartbreaker, 2-1, to the Tigers. Continental struggled to get going with the bats, but Terry Dockery III’s RBI double in the 6th put the team up, 1-0. It really should have been 2-0 at that point, since Trevor Williamson was called out at home to end the visitor’s 4th on a highly-disputable decision by the home plate umpire.

Fred Shepard pitched the first 3 scoreless innings, and Chris Potts pitched 2 more scoreless before Holgate scored 2 unearned runs in the 6th. Jarret Keck got the final 2 outs of the inning to keep the score, 2-1. Special praise to C Saige Deleon for picking off a runner at 3B with the bases loaded in the 2nd inning.

Continental had two hits (Dockery and Konnor Okuley) and 2 walks in the game (Potts and Shepard). Both Williamson and Payton Weller reached base via errors.

The team will play its final home game of 2016 Thursday vs. Ottoville if the weather allows.
