If you left with 10 minutes to go you missed all the fireworks in the semifinal game of the Bath Classic matching Continental (2-0) against Lima Central Catholic (0-1). After the Pirates opened up to a 2-0 first half lead with a pair of Senior Zach Schwarzman goals (36:50, 22:03) the Tbirds came flying back with a goal by Alberto Bessone with 11:20 left in half. Bessone scored the tying goal on a penalty kick with 37:21 left in the second half.
Then came the final 10 minutes. With 8:28 left Pirate Freshman Tyler Brecht found the back of the goal. With 6:12 left, an opposing Tbird player received a red card and the Tbirds played a man down. Pirates Senior Derek Troyer scored with 5:22 left. With 22 seconds left on the clock, a Tbird received his second yellow card and a Tbird coach got both a yellow and a red card. (Mike notes that although there were lots of cards handed out, “the game was not a bloodbath but just closely called”). Final score: Pirates 4, Tbirds 2. Less than 2 minutes after the game was over, lightening was spotted.
The Pirates advance to the finals of the Bath Classic on Thursday at 7:00. The other semifinal between Lima Senior and Bath was cancelled due to lightening.
