Pirates Close Out Regular Season with Two Wins

A Thursday night special at Holgate saw the Continental Pirates (9-12) defeat the Tigers (9-13) 50-34. The Pirates jumped out to an early 10-5 lead at the first break only to see Holgate outscore the Pirates by two to narrow the halftime gap to 22-19. The third quarter was all Pirates as the they outscored the Tigers by 10 for a 36-23 Pirate lead. With a Pirate 14-11 advantage in the fourth, the final score was 50-34. Leading the way for the Pirates were Gabe William with 17 points while Austin Mansfield and Wade Stauffer contributed 10 points each. This was the Pirates first match-up against Holgate without facing Tiger Veteran Coach Paul Wayne.

The Pirates continued their late season surge as they traveled to Pandora to take on the Rockets on Friday Feb 21. Continental came out with the D holding the Rockets to a single basket in the first quarter for a 9-2 break lead. The Pirate defense continued to apply the pressure as the Rockets halftime score was 7 to the Pirates 25. The Rockets outscored the Pirates 12-6 in the third but still trailed 31-19. The Pirates finished out the regular season with a 50-29 win. The Pirates were led in scoring by Tyler Rue with 11, Gabe Williams and Wade Stauffer contributed 8 each.

The Pirates are now on a 5 game winning streak as they enter Sectional Tournament Action in Paulding. The Pirates take on Patrick Henry on Tuesday Feb 25 at 7 pm.
