
Sports — A lot was happening at Tinora on Saturday. Senior night for the Rams post game, recognition of their State Champion Cheerleading squad and coach Paul Wayne was going for win 500. Oh, and they also were taking on Continental in a non-league boys basketball match-up.
You could sense Coach Wayne was in the house as the first quarter had limited possession with Tinora scoring first with the Pirates Caleb Olds hitting a 2 pointer and Trevor Williamson hitting a 3 pointers for a Pirate 5-2 lead. The Rams finished up the quarters by hitting a 2 pointer and then draining a long 3 as time expired. Rams 7, Pirates 5 after 1.
The Rams opened up the scoring by hitting a 2 in the second only to Williamson hitting a 3 to make it a one point game Rams 9, Pirates 8. A Ram 3 pointer was followed by a Jacob Williams 2 to make it Rams 12 – 10. A Ram 2 pointer was followed by baskets by Williams and Wade Stauffer to make it 14 all. A Ram 3 pointer finished the scoring for the half. Rams 17, Pirates 14.
The third quarter was all Rams as the hit for 9 points and the Pirates put in only 5 (Williams for 4, Stauffer 1). Rams 26, Pirates 19 after 3.
The Rams opened up the fourth by hitting a pair of baskets to open up an 11 point lead Rams 30-19. With 5 minutes to go it was all Pirates from then on as the Pirates outscored the Rams 22-6 the rest of the quarter. Williams opened the Pirate run by converting a 3 point play and this was followed by 3 points from Stauffer. A Ram basket made it 32-25 Rams before Tyler Brecht hit a key 3 to make it 32 -28. A Ram basket was followed by an Olds 3 pointer and 2 pointer to make it a 1 point game Rams 34, Pirates 33. A Ram basket finished their scoring for the night at 36. The Pirates then put in the last 8 points (Olds 2, Williams 4, and Williamson 2) to make it Continental 41, Rams 36.
Trevor Williamson scored 12 to lead the Pirates while Caleb Olds put in 10 points, Jacob Williams scored 8, Wade Stauffer 8 and Tyler Brecht 3. Williams made a pair of 3 pointers with Olds and Brecht each making 1.
Continental improves to 13-7 while Tinora falls to 3-19. Continental host Pandora Gilboa on Thursday night to decide the Putnam Count League title. Continental wins and they share the title with the Rockets and Miller City. It the Rockets win they are the sole champion.
The game was broadcast on 105.7TheBull. Caleb Olds was chosen 105.7 Player of the game.
