It was a difficult trip to Fairview HS today for the Continental baseball team. In addition to the 40-something temps, the unplayable, soggy field, and multiple players getting injured, the Apaches took care of the Pirates in both end of the doubleheader. Fairview beat Paulding last night in district action and will play Archbold with the chance to go to the regionals.
The good part was that all 15 players who went to the game played in at least 1 of the 2 games. Guys such as Bryce Slattman (at catcher), Isaiah Good, and Steven Huizenga all started the 2nd game on the infield.
Payton Weller pitched well in game 1- keeping Continental within 4-2 until the 5th inning. Jacob Williams had a big 2-run hit in the first game. Trevor Williamson had 1 hit, 1 walk, and twice reached on errors in the 2 games. Fred Shepard was 1-for-4 with 2 walks in the doubleheader. And Jarret Keck went 2-for-3 and scored the lone run in the 2nd game. Along with a base hit in the second game, Alec Kent Murphy had a fine game while playing third base with 5 assists on groundballs.
Continental will resume its (suspended) PCL game with Ottoville on Monday.
