Sports — It was a great night to be a Pirate on Friday at Fort Jennings as the Pirates scored the first nine points of the game and never looked back in this Boys Putnam County League encounter. The Pirate scoring started with Trevor Williamson hitting 3 free throws that were followed by a trio of baskets by Wade Stauffer. A Musketeer 3 pointer was countered by a basket by Williamson and a pair of Caleb Olds free throws giving the Pirates a 10 point lead. Fort Jennings scored 9 of the final 11 points in the quarter to make it Pirates 15, Musketeers 12.
After the Musketeers opened up the second quarter with a basket, the Pirates went on an 8 point run (baskets by Stauffer (2), Williamson, and Tyler Brecht) to make it a 23-14 Pirate lead. The two teams traded 3 points with Fort Jennings making a foul shot and a basket while Stauffer completed a 3 point play. A Musketeer basket was followed by Stauffer 3 and Jacob Williams 2 pointer. The Musketeers scored the last two points of the half to make it Pirates 31, Musketeers 21.
Olds put in a basket to open the third which was met by a Musketeer basket. A Pirate 5 point run (a pair of Stauffer free throws and a Chris Potts 3) made it a 15 point Pirate advantage 38-23. Fort Jennings proceeded to score 8 of the next 10 points to make it 40-31 at the end of three. The final quarter was all Pirates as the Musketeers narrowed the gap to 8 three times but ended up being outscored by the Pirates 19-10. Pirates 59, Musketeers 41 final.
Wade Stauffer led the Pirates with 26 points while Trevor Williamson finished with 9. Jacob Williams had 8 points, Caleb Olds 6, Tyler Brecht 4, Chris Potts 3, Nick States and Cameron Mason 2 each. Unofficially the Pirates shot 15/17 from the foul line (Williamson 5/5, Stauffer 6/8, Olds and States 2/2). Chris Potts and Wade Stauffer both made 1 three pointer for the Pirates.
The Pirates ended a 3 game losing streak and are now 7-5 (1-2 PCL) while Fort Jennings is now 4-9 (0-3 PCL). The Pirates travel to McComb on Saturday night for a non-league match.
The game was Military Appreciation Night, a statewide initiative. Both schools did a great job honoring those who are serving and have served.
