Pirates Fall to 6-5 With Wildcat & Pilot Losses

Wildcats 61, Pirates 50
On Friday night Continental played host to Miller City in a Putnam County League matchup. Things started out great for the Pirates as Caleb Olds and Wade Stauffer split the nets for an early Pirate 4-0 lead. A Miller City 5 point run was stopped by a Stauffer basket. A Wildcat basket ended the first quarter scoring Wildcats 7, Pirates 6.

The Wildcats would put in the first 4 points of the second to take a 5 point lead 11-6. A Stauffer 3 pointer and a Olds 2 evened the score at 11. The Wildcats 5 point run was stopped by a Jacob Williams basket that was followed by another Stauffer basket. Wildcats 16, Pirates 15. That would be the score at half.

The Wildcats would make the first basket of the second half by a Pirate Trevor Williamson basket. Another Wildcat basket was bettered by an Olds 3 tying the game at 20. The two teams traded basket before Miller City 3 would allow the Wildcats to take a 25-22 lead. At the 3:27 mark in the third Stauffer was placed on the free throw line for the first foul shots of the game. Stauffer would make 1-2 to make it 25-23 Wildcats. A Wildcat basket was matched by a Chris Potts basket making it 27-25 Wildcats. A pair of Wildcat 3s (one as time expired) would have the 3rd quarter score Wildcats 33, Pirates 27.

The fourth quarter saw the Wildcats score 7 of the first nine points to open up an eleven point lead Wildcats 40, Pirates 29. A pair of three point plays by Pirate Stauffer was sandwiched around a Wildcat free throw made it a 6 point Wildcat advantage Wildcats 41, Pirates 35. The Wildcats then went on a 7 point run to put the game out of reach. Final score Wildcats 61, Pirates 50.

Wade Stauffer led all scored with 27 points (4-5 from the line and 1 3 pointer). Caleb Olds put in 8 (1 three pointer), Jacob Williams had 7, Trevor Williamson 6 and Chris Potts 2.

Continental falls to 6-4 (0-2 in PCL while the Wildcats improve to 7-2 (3-0 PCL). Things don’t get any easier as the Pirates travel to Ayersville to take on the undefeated Pilots who are ranked #3 in Statewide in Division IV.

Pilots 50, Pirates 47
On Saturday night Continental Boys traveled to the Hanger to take on Division IV #3 ranked team Ayersville Pilots. The first quarter was all Pirates  after a Pilot made free throw, the Pirates put in 5 with a Caleb Olds basket and a Trevor Williamson 3. A pair of free throws by the Pilots was matched by another Olds basket . The Pirates made it a 7 point advantage when an Olds basket and a Christ Potts 3 made it 12-5. Both teams had 4 point runs to make it Pirates 16, Pilots 9 after one.

The Pirates opened up the scoring in the third quarter with a 3 point play by Williamson. The Pilots would score the next 13 points to take a 22-19 lead. A Williamson 3 pointer at the buzzer tied the score at 22 all heading into the halftime break. Unofficially the Pilots were 11-12 from the line in the first half.

The third quarter had Olds open up the scoring for a Pirate 24-22. That would be the final lead of the night for the Pirates as the Pilots would have an 11 point run to make it 33-24 Pilots. The Pirates put in the last 3 points of the quarter (an Olds free throw and a pair of free throws by Nick States) for a 33-27 score after 3.

The Pilots put in the first 5 points in the fourth quarter to take an 11 point lead 38-27. Frantic play marked the remainder of the game as the Pirates turned up the defensive pressure but the closest the Pirates would come is 3 points at the end when Potts made a 3 pointer at the buzzer. Pilots 50, Pirates 47.

Trevor Williamson led the Pirates with 20 points (11 in the fourth quarter). Caleb Olds hit for 13 points (8 in the first quarter). Chris Potts and Wade Stauffer both had 6. Nick States had 2. Williamson hit four 3 pointers while Potts has a pair.

The Pirates fall to 6-5 and will next travel to Fort Jennings on Friday for a Putnam County League game (Military Appreciation Night). Ayersville improves to 9-0.
