Pirates Late Inning Rally Comes Up Short

May 6, 2025 by Adam Donaldson

Host Continental took the first inning with Nolan Cordes, Jayden Pitney, Rhettik Bowers, and Adin Daisy all scoring in bottom half of the first after Ayersville scored 1 in their at-bat to take a 4-1 lead.  The Pilots would score next as they would cross the plate 3 times in the fourth to tie the game.  A pair of runs in the fifth and sixth put the Pilots up 8-4 after six.  The Pirates would rally in the bottom of the seventh and that would result in Rhettik Bowers crossing the plate but that was it for the Pirates.  Pilots 8-5.
Rhettik Bowers led the Pirates with a double and a pair of singles scoring 2 runs, driving in 1 run, and stealing 2 bases. Jayden Pitney hit a triple, scored a run and drove in a run.  Adin Daisy hit a triple, scored a run, was hit by a pitch and drove in a run.  Nolan Cordes had a hit, scored a run, stole a base and was hit by a pitch,  Keenan Bowers has a hit and drove in a run.  Devin Volkert had a hit.  Jackson Bidlack earned a walk.
Jayden Pitney picked up the loss in relief for the Pirates.  Rhettik Bowers started for the Pirates going 3 innings giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits 3 walks and 5 strikeouts.  Pitney went 4 innings giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.  Both teams committed 2 errors.
Continental falls to 4-9 and will travel to Hicksville on Tuesday.  Ayersville improves to 6-7.
