Friday night saw Continental High head northeast to take on rival Holgate. The Pirates took an early lead on a Mason Rayle free throw and a Konnor Knipp Williams basket that they would not lose. Holgate got on the board with a basket to make it 3-2 Pirates. The Pirates would get a Carson Etter basket and a Rhenn Armey free throw to make it Pirates 6-2. The Tigers would make it a 1 point game by hitting a 3. The teams traded baskets with Knipp Williams hitting for the Pirates. Pirates 8-7. The Pirates would end the quarter scoring with a 3 from Jonathon Etter. Pirates 11-7 after 1.
Mason Rayle would hit a 3 to put the Pirates up by 7 to start the second quarter scoring. Pirates 14-7. A Tiger free throw and basket cut the Pirates lead to 4, 14-10. Carson Etter would hit a 3 to put the Pirates back up by 7, 17-10. A pair of Tiger free throws and a basket would cut the Pirate lead to 3, 17-14. It looked like it would remain a 3 point Pirate lead at half when the Pirates missed a 3 but Carson Etter got the rebound and put it in as the buzzer sounded. Pirates 19-14 half.
The Pirates opened up the second half with a Knipp Williams basket, Pirates 21-14. A Tiger free throw and an Armey basket put the Pirates up by 8 23-15. The Tigers would make a basket to cut the Pirate 6, 23-17. A 7 point Pirates run with baskets from Carson Etter and Brady Thomsen and a 3 by Carson Etter had the Pirates up by 13, 30-17. The Tigers would hit a 3 to finish off the third quarter. Pirates 30-20 after 3.
The Pirates would put in the first 7 points of the fourth to take a 17 point lead 37-20. Knipp Williams and Jonathon Etter would make basket while Carson Etter hit a 3 for the 7 points. The Tigers came roaring back with a 9 point run to make it Pirates 37-29. The Pirates would score the next 5 points on a Jonathon Etter 3 and a pair of Armey free throws. Pirates 42-29. The Tigers would make a pair of free throws to make it an 11 point Pirate lead 42-31. Mason Rayle would finish off the game’s scoring with a basket. Pirates 44-31 final.
Carson Etter led all scorers with 12 points, Mason Rayle put in 9. Jonathon Etter and Konnor Knipp Williams both had 8, Rhenn Armey 5 and Brady Thomsen 2. Continental made six 3s, Jonathon Etter, Carson Etter and Mason Rayle all made 2. The Tigers made four 3 pointers. The Pirates were 4-9 from the line, the Tigers 7-12. Rhenn Armey had 6 steals for the Pirates.
Continental improves to 9-11 and will host Pandora Gilboa on Thursday. Holgate falls to 3-18.
