January 23, 2022 by Adam Donaldson

An exciting night at the Cove as Continental High had their homecoming with Queen Mckenzie Mayes and King Wyatt Davis being crowned.  A complete game by the Pirates had them sweeping all four quarters to highlight Mayes and Davis reign.  It was North Central who would put up the first points of the night when they made a basket that was followed by the Pirates getting 2 from Rhenn Armey to tie the game at 2.  A 3 by the Eagles was followed by a baskets from Gavin Huff and Konnor Knipp Williams to make it 6-5 Pirates.  A 3 by the Eagles gave them an 8-6 lead.  The Pirates would get a pair of baskets from Huff to take the lead for good and finish the quarter with a 10-8 Pirate lead.
The Pirates would expand their lead to 4 to start the second quarter when Knipp Williams would make a basket 12-9 Pirates.  A 3 by the Eagles would make it a 1 point game.  The teams would trade baskets with Andrew Hoeffel scoring for the Pirates.  Pirates 14-13.  The Pirates would take a 4 point lead when Huff would make a free throw and a basket, Pirates 17-13.  A 3 by the Eagles would bring them to within one but the Pirates would finish off their scoring for the half with 5 more points with Huff and Hoeffel making baskets and Armey a free throw, Pirates 22-16.  The Eagles would put in the last 2 of the half to make it 22-18 Pirates.
The Pirates would put in the first 5 points of the second half when Knipp Williams made a basket and Armey a 3, Pirates 27-18.  The Eagles would answer with a 5 point run, 27-23 Pirates.  The Pirates then put up 7 as Knipp Williams would convert a 3 point play and make a basket and Huff would put in a basket, Pirates 34-23.  The Eagles would make a free throw to stop the Pirates run but the Pirates would outscore the Eagles 4-2, with Knipp William getting all four.  Pirates 38-26 after 3.
The fourth quarter belonged to Pirate Knipp Williams as he put in 9 points including 4-5 from the line while Armey and Alex Sharrits both went 2-2 from the line.  The Eagles would get to within in  7 and put in 12 points in the fourth.  Pirates 51-38 final.
Konnor Knipp Williams led the Pirates with a career high 24 points.  Gavin Huff put in 13 points, Rhenn Armey 8, Andrew Hoeffel 4, and Alex Sharitts 2.  Armey made the only 3 pointer for the Pirates while the Eagles made 6.  Huff pulled down 7 rebounds and had 4 steals for the Pirates while Armey also had 4 steals.
Continental improves to 5-10 and on Tuesday will travel to Wayne Trace to take on the AP Division III #9 ranked Raiders.  North Central falls to 8-6.
Long live King Wyatt and Queen McKenzie!
