Pirates Softball Advance to Napoleon Districts

Continental High Softball will continue their tournament run on Wednesday thanks to a 17-7 6 inning win over Holgate.  On Thursday, the #2 seed and host Pirates got on the board early by scoring a run in the bottom of the first.  The #7 seed Tigers matched the Pirates run in the top of the second.  The Pirates took a 4-1 lead by scoring 3 in the bottom of the third.  The Tigers tied the score at 4 in the top of the third.  The Pirates took the lead for good with a 3 runs in the fourth, 7-4.  The Tigers made it a 2 run game in the top 5th when they scored a run.  The Pirates took a commanding 14-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth by batting around and scoring 7 runs.  Pirates 14-5.  The Tigers scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to cut the Pirate lead to 7.  Pirates 14-7.  The Pirates would plate 3 runs before the Tigers made an out to end the game at 17-7 Pirates.
The Pirates pounded out 18 hits while scoring 17 runs.  Gracie Homier and Kmiberly Grant both had 3 hits.  Grant hit a homer along with 2 singles, drove in a pair of runs, scored a run and stole a base.  Gracie Homier hit a double and 2 triple and a pair of singles while scoring 4 runs, and driving in a run.  Macie Clemens hit a home and a single, drove in 3 runs, scored a pair of runs.  Raegen Clemens doubled and singled, walked twice and scored twice.  Ava Homier had 2 hits and scored 3 runs.  Maeci Dockery had 2 hits, scored 2 runs, and drove in a run.  Cheyenne Goings had a pair of hits and drove in a run. Kenzie Searfoss had a hit, scored a run, earned a walk, and stole a base.  Becca Sullivan had a hit and drove in 3 runs.  Mallorie Barnhart scored 2 runs and walked once.
Gracie Homier picked up the complete game victory.  Homier went 6 innings giving up 7 run (5 earned) on 9 hits, 3 walks and 10 strikeouts.  The Pirates committed 3 errors to the Tigers 3.
Continental improves to 15-7 and will travel to Napoleon on Wednesday (game is postponed to Friday @ 6pm) to play #5 seed Antwerp in an OHSAA DVII District Semifinal.  Holgate falls to 3-13.
