
The Pirate (3-8) Boys traveled to the Hanger for a non-league matchup against the Ayersville Pilots (6-4). The Pirates took a 10-8 lead at the end of one thanks to scoring the last four points of the quarter including a buzzer beater basket by Gabe Williams. The Pirates extended their lead to 6 by scoring the first four points of the second. The Pilots then went on a 6 point run to tie the score at 14. The rest of the second was trading baskets as the Pilots went into the locker room with a 24-23 lead. The Pilots opened up a 9 point lead (34-25) midway thru the third thanks to scoring 10 of the first 12 of the quarter. The Pirates battled back by scoring the last 4 of the quarter for a Pilot 34-29 advantage after three. The Pilots scored the first two of the fourth only to see the Pirates go on a 7 point run to tie the game at 36. After a Pilot two pointer the Pirates hit a three to make it Pirates 39, Pilots 38. The Pilots then split a pair from the line to tie the game. Freshman Caleb Olds got free under the basket for the Pirate winner. Pirates 41, Pilots 39. Derek Troyer and Trevor Williamson hit threes during the Pirate fourth quarter comeback.
Gabe Williams lead the way for the Pirates with 14 points while Trevor Williamson added 10 (2 three pointers). Derek Troyer had 7, Jacob Williams 4, Wade Stauffer 2, Joey Swager 2, and Caleb Olds 2.
The Pirates next hit the court on Friday January 23 as they travel to Fort Jennings for a League matchup.
