
A big second half propelled the Pirates from a 7 point deficit to 10 point win over Tinora Saturday night. The Rams came out firing, scoring the first 8 points of the game before Dean Krendl split the nets for the Pirates. The Pirates scored 7 of the next 8 points to make it 9-9 in the middle of the first. The Rams put up 4 of the next 5 to take a 14-10 lead after one. The second quarter had the Rams outscoring the Pirates by 3 to take a 26-19 lead at half. The third quarter saw the Pirates defense limit the Rams to 8 points while the Pirates were putting in 18 for a Pirate 37-34 lead. The Pirates hit four 3 pointers (2 Wade Stauffer, 1 Chris Potts, 1 Tyler Brecht. The fourth quarter was all Stauffer (9 points) and Trevor Williamson (11 points) as the Pirates outscored the Rams by 7 for the 60-50 Pirate win.
Wade Stauffer led the Pirates with 22 points (four 3 pointers) while Trevor Williamson had 19 points. Chris Potts scored 6 points (two 3 pointers) while Tyler Brecht had 5 (one 3 pointer). Dean Krendl put in 4 while Jacob Williams and Nick States each had 2.
The Pirates are now 6-12 while Tinora is 11-10. The Pirates are on the road on Thursday to take on the Rockets of Pandora-Gilboa in a PCL matchup.
Other than game wise it was a busy night at the Cove. Amelia Weller sang the pregame National Anthemn. The Cheerleaders performed their dance routines (Junior High at half of JV game and High School at half of the Varsity game).
Saturday night was the last home game of the season and the four Senior Cheerleaders were honored for their work. Continentalenews Sports Department thanks the girls for their dedication to their sport and wish them much luck in the future. Bradi Baltrip, Amelia Weller, Keagan Grime, and Kayla Troyer are this year’s Pirate winter sports seniors.
