At 2:20am today’s date (7/25/14), the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call stating a subject had been in an accident on his four wheel ATV in a field west of road 23-L in the 12,000 block, south of Cloverdale. The caller advised the injuries were life-threatening. The single occupant of the ATV, Andrew Altenburger, 28, Cloverdale, had been riding in the field when he struck a surface drain, causing the ATV to roll and eject the driver. Lifeflight was called to the scene but were cancelled as they were enroute. Altenburger was pronounced dead on scene by Putnam County Coroner Dr. Anne Horstman. Also assisting at the scene were Ottoville Fire Department, Ottoville and Putnam County EMS, the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Meyer’s Towing, and Love Funeral Home.
