Putnam County Girls Basketball…..and then there is one

March 10, 2025 by Adam Donaldson

Two Putnam County League Girls Basketball teams advanced to the State Semifinals this year and Columbus Grove advanced on to play for a State Champion in DVI.  Columbus Grove and Ottoville both advanced to the State Semifinals with both games being played in front of a packed Elida Fieldhouse on Friday.  In the opening game Columbus Grove punched their ticket to the DVI State Championship at University of Dayton Arena by defeating Minister 43-40.  While in the nightcap defending DIV State Champion Fort Loramie defeated Ottoville in the DVII Sate Semifinals 52-40.
Columbus Grove will play for the Division VI State title on Saturday at 2 pm at University of Dayton Arena against Rootstown.  Rootstown 27-1 is out of the NorthEast District and was the #1 seed in that District.  Columbus Grove 26-2 was the #2 seed in the Northwest District 4.  Tickets for State Finals must be purchased online.
Springboro Girls Basketball
Springboro fell to Princeton 49-47 in the State Semifinal held at Fairfield on Saturday as they attempted to be the last team to qualify for the State Finals.  That marks the end of Panther career for Bryn Martin who will be playing for University of Washington next year and retires as the scoring and assist leader at Springboro.  Bryn is in the running for Ms. Ohio Basketball 2025 which will be awarded later this week.  Bryn along with her sister Junior Ady Martin are the daughters of CHS alum Kyle and Michelle Martin.
