Ottawa – R. Eleanore “Omie” Allen, 85, of Ottawa died 6:00 p.m., Friday, December 18, 2015 at her daughter’s residence surrounded by loving family. She was born November 17, 1930 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Dietrich A. and Hedwig (Scholz) Hoffgardt. On May 30, 1953, she married Richard James Allen who died February 26, 2010.
Eleanore is survived by her five children: Donald (Karen) Allen of Hampton, VA., Thomas (Melissa) Allen of Sylvania, Russell (Susan) Allen of Cordova, TN, Debra (Jerry) Payne of McComb and Lisa (Kevin) Benton of Leipsic; 10 grandchildren: Todd, Mandy, Valerie, Carrie, Casey, Jared, Michael, Ross, Claire and Rebecca and 5 great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Lucy, Ellie, Jaxson and William. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Ilse Kalk and step-mother, Martha.
Eleanore was a very loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed family, knitting and wine tasting with the Corker Babes. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa; YMCA, Red Cross and American Cancer Society Reach to Recovery.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa, with Pastor Lynda Lockwood officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa and one hour prior to service Wednesday at the church.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, American Red Cross or Trinity United Methodist Church.
