VALPARAISO, IN – Robert Lee Helvie, age 84, of Valparaiso, died on Friday, September 13, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 18, 1939, in Logansport, IN, to the late Howard and Clare Helvie (Hitchens). He was a 1957 graduate of Logansport High School and later worked as a salesman for Bowman. He also had his own business, Startracks, which made custom lifts for the disabled. Robert was very active in his church and in his spare time enjoyed researching genealogy. His friends and family will remember him as being very people oriented, with a generous heart.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Joan Helvie; children, Michael (Cindy) Helvie,Marion,In and Marilyn (Howard) Shepherd,Dupont,Oh; brother, Wayne Helvie; stepchildren, Todd Etzler, Elizabeth Etzler Counts, Stephanie Etzler Lefler; 11 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Helvie.
A visitation was held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2024, with a memorial service following at 11:00 a.m. at Valparaiso Nazarene Church, 2702 E. Glendale Blvd., Valparaiso, IN 46383, with Pastor Shawn Evans officiating.
