Rockets Soar in Second Half Over Lady Pirates

January 23, 2022 by Adam Donaldson

On Saturday Continental High Girls had a great first half but a change in visiting Pandora Gilboa’s defensive strategy stymied the Pirates offense and led to a Rocket comeback victory.  The Pirates opened up the day’s scoring with a Bryn Tegenkamp basket to take an early 2-0 lead.  The Rockets would put in a pair of baskets to make it 4-2.  The Pirates would pour in 8 strigth points as Reese Knowles and Jensen Armey both put in single baskets while Tegenkamp would add 2 baskets.  The Rockets would go on a 6 point run to tie the score at 10 all.  The Rockets and Pirates would close out the quarter with a basket with Tegenkamp hitting for the Pirates.  12 all after 1.
The second quarter scoring would start with Marissa Beecher converting a 3 point play, Pirates 15-12.  The Rockets took a temporary lead when they stringed together a pair of baskets only to have the Pirates regain the lead when Armey would make a pair of free throws, Pirates 17-16.  The Rockets would go on an 8 point run to take a 7 point lead 24-17.  The Pirates would answer with an 11 point run, Tori Searfoss and Marissa Jones making a 3 point shot, Knowles and Olivia Logan making a basket, and Tegenkamp a free throw.  Pirates 28-24 at the half.
The second half saw the Rockets change defense and take control of the game.  The Rockets put up 15 points in the third quarter while holding the Pirates scoreless to take a 39-28 lead into the fourth quarter.  The fourth quarter saw the Pirates offense get back on track as they put in 11 points, Becher hit a pair of baskets, Logan made a 2 and a 3, and Tegenkamp a basket, but the Rockets took the quarter by putting in 14 and taking the game 63-39.
Bryn Tegenkamp led the Pirates with 11 points while Marissa Becher and Olivia Logan both put in 7.  Reese Knowles and Jensen Armey scored 4 each, and Tori Searfoss and Marissa Jones put in 3 each.  The Pirates made three 3s with Seafoss, Jones, and Logan each making 1.  The Rockets made two 3 pointers.
Continental falls to 2-12 (0-4 PCL) and will travel to North Central on Monday.  Pandora Gilboa improves to 8-8 (2-3 PCL).
