
Press Release from Putnam County Sheriff Michael C. Chandler on 8/26/2013:
In an effort to enhance school bus safety, the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association and Putnam County Sheriff Michael C. Chandler, are coordinating a school bus ride along day for all schools in the county.
Sheriff Chandler, stated that, “It is important for our children to understand the need for proper behavior while riding the bus to school.”
While school bus drivers concentrate on the raodways and other drivers, the students must do their part as well. “Respect, Responsibility and Restraint are the new 3 R’s to be learned” said Sheriff Chandler.
Motorist will also have to make adjustments while driving. The need to “slow down” and stop while students board and depart from the buses.
Flashing yellow lights and flashing red lights are a sure signal to drivers that school buses are making you aware that children will soon be boarding the bus. Drivers need to be attentive in school zones and when school buses are stopped.
The Sheriff or deputy only has to take information about a vehicle and later issue a citation for school bus violations.
