With the year winding down, the Shooting Stars 4-H Club is preparing for fair. May 17th was the annual Chuck Wurth Memorial Match. The competition took place in Cairo, Ohio. I am delighted to announce that all members of the Shooting Stars club that attended the match, placed. Brayden Cole placed 1st in Junior Pistol and 2nd in Junior Rifle. Ben Kahle placed 2nd in Junior Shotgun, Mason Shaffer placed 3rd in Junior Shotgun, and William Schmersal placed 2nd in Senior Hunting and Wildlife. The Junior division of shotgun results required a little extra time on the range as our very own Ben and Mason had to go head-to-head in a shoot-off following the initial round of competition. I would like to congratulate everyone for trying their best and representing our club well. Our members really ‘shot’ to the top and showed what they can do.
Chuck Wurth grew up and went to school in Kalida, Ohio. He continued his education at Ohio State University. Chuck was hired at Palmer Inc. 4-H camp in 1993 and worked as program manager for over 20 years. Chuck Wurth died on February 26, 2018, as a result of an accident. His friends continue to hold the match, and it is evident the impact his life had. I heard one leader say, “Chuck would have loved the turnout, he would be thrilled.”
As I conclude this article, I would like to thank our Club Leaders Anji and Rob Schmersal for guiding us all on a fun and safe path of shooting sports, and thanks to our parents for encouraging, and getting us where we need to be. The Shooting Stars 4H Club surely has a bright future!
