Helen Keller said it best “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Continental Elementary School was very blessed to have a group of mentors who donated their time to help students in the reading area. The volunteers worked 1:1 with students from 1 session up to 12 sessions per week. Each session lasted for 30 minutes. Students worked with a volunteer on reading fluency, vocabulary, sight words, and many reading skills. Mentors consisted of high school students, community members, retired teachers, and our elementary principal. Thank you to all of the mentors for their help throughout the year. The Title Reading Program mentors for the 2014-2015 school year were Alicia Bishop, Amanda Coble, Carolyn Etter, Brian Gerdeman, Becky Geren, Dorothy Hanefeld, Danielle Matson, Kasey Miner, Kathy Spencer, Lois Weller, Gabe Williams, Dennis Woodburn, and Gabby Young.
If you are interested in becoming a mentor for next school year, 2015-16, please contact the Continental Elementary Office at 419-596-3860 or email Mrs. Terri Schlegel at t.schlegel@continentalpirates.org for more information.
