Vantage August Board Meeting Held

The Vantage Board of Education held its regular August Board meeting on Thursday, August 6, 2015 in the District Conference room. Prior to the Treasurer’s reports being approved, the Board went into executive session for discussion of the employment of personnel. No action was taken.

The minutes from the June 25, 2015 regular board meeting were approved along with financial statements for the month of June, 2015.
Superintendent Staci Kaufman updated the Board on the status of the search for new personnel, which has two remaining positions completing the interview stage. Also summarized were current CRA and TIF agreements. She informed the Board of the expected savings in the new electricity contract beginning January 1, 2016, and noted the positive impact of the solar array on Vantage’s capacity, important in the formula used to calculate electricity costs. Adult Education Director Pete Prichard reported on the ABLE program, enrollment service, financial aid, medical assisting and the police academy. High School Director Ben Winans reported on the upcoming orientations set for Monday, August 10 and Tuesday, August 11, 2015 for Trade and Industry, Business, Services, and Information Technology. He also reported on the upcoming auction, held in the Vantage Bus Barn, on August 13, 2015, which will include (5) lathes, (3) welders, (1) surface grinder, computer desk, chairs and various computers.

In new business, the Board:
➢ Employed the following for a 1-year contract; Richard McKanna, 2nd-Shift Custodial Maintenance, Larry Davis, Automotive Technology Instructor, and Linda Bales, hourly Interim Superintendent Secretary. The Board also employed the following supplemental contracts; Penny Baucom, Special Events Worker, Mary Ann Falk, Lead Teacher;
➢ Employed the following list, as Adult Education instructors, as needed, as scheduled; Craig Black and Donna Wheeler, and Adult Education evening secretary, Annette Klinger;
➢ Accepted the resignation of Assistant Treasurer, Lori Gunderman, effective July 31, 2015;
➢ Accepted the resignation of Automotive Technology Instructor, Jeffrey Duncan, effective July 31, 2015;
➢ Approved a stipend payment for Susan Farr, July, 2015, $1000.00, Special Ag Student Projects, Paulding Agriculture Satellite;
➢ Resolution to approve a stipend for Susan Farr, Paulding Agriculture Satellite Student Projects, $5565.00, for the 2015-16;
➢ Accepted the donation of a 2000 Ford Ranger Pick Up valued at $1700.00 from Tony L. Joseph, Convoy, OH;
➢ Recognized the school nurse designees for 2015-2016 school year. (Wendy Baumle and Leigh Carey, Health Technologies Instructors);
➢ Appointed Lonnie Nedderman as the 2015 OSBA Vantage Career Center Capital Conference Delegate and Greg Reinhart as the Alternate OSBA Vantage Career Center Capital Conference Delegate to be held November 8-11, 2015;
➢ Approved the increase in the rate of pay for substitute teachers at $90.00 per day.
➢ Approved the Vantage Career Center substitute list of certified / non-certified employees and subsequent revisions for high school and adult education operations;
➢ Approved the Western Buckeye ESC substitute list and subsequent revisions;
➢ Approved school lunch prices for school year 2015-2016, (no increases);
➢ Waived the district’s 45-day notice prior to local government action regarding the Tax Incremental Finance (TIF) Agreement with Cooper Hatchery, Inc., 2016-2030, 15-year abatement at 100%, collecting $338.34 annually;
➢ Approved the revised job description for the Ohio Technical Center (Adult Education) Instructional Leader;
➢ Approved the Electricity Supply Agreement with Constellation NewEnergy, Inc., for the purchase of electricity;
➢ Approved the revised Memorandum of Understanding, Revenue Sharing Agreement, between NSCC and Vantage Career Center for the purpose of adult education workforce training;
➢ First reading of NEOLA revised policies, 5460, Students – Graduation Requirements;
➢ Waived the 45-day notice and approve the City of Van Wert commercial Community Reinvestment Area tax abatement at 90% for 10-years, $72,000 investment for Jim Collins /The Edition, LLC, Van Wert, Ohio;
➢ Approved the Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) Agreement with Gina Dairy, LLC for a period of 10-years with a 75% abated tax to go towards infrastructure improvements.

Outside of the consent items, the Board:
– Employed the following for a 1-year contract: Wendy Baumie, Health Technology Instructor; Jeanne Windsor, Paulding Agriculture Satellite Instructor;
– Approved the resolution to oppose the process and consequences generated by he Ohio Legislature pertaining to House Bill 70.

The next regular Board meeting will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the District Conference Room.
