Vantage Board Of Education June Meeting Recap

The Vantage Board of Education held its regular June board meeting on Thursday, June 5, 2015 in the District Conference room. The minutes from the May 7, 2015 regular board meeting were approved along with financial statements for the month of April, 2015.

Superintendent Staci Kaufman updated the Board on the Health Technology Instructor vacancy created by the retirement of Reesa Rohrs, effective May 31. She gave additional information on Tax Increment Financing (TIF) proposals, in progress within Van Wert County. Adult Education Director Pete Prichard reported on enrollment services, programming, accreditation progress, and the partnership with Northwest State Community College. High School Director Ben Winans reported on the Senior Awards Assembly held on May 20. Vantage students received over $200,000 in scholarship monies. Ohio Teacher Evaluation System training continues for staff and implementation will begin during the 2015-16 school year. A total of 23 students from Electricity, Industrial Mechanics, and Precision Machining were enrolled at Northwest State Community College through the dual-enrollment agreement and these students earned 178 college semester hours of transferable credit.

In new business, the Board:
▪ Employed the following list, as needed as scheduled: Susan Farr, Special Ag Projects/Paulding Satellite; Karen McGilton, summer maintenance; Kenneth Pinks-Liebert and Corey Miller, summer technology assistants;
▪ Employed the following list, as Adult Education instructors, as needed, as scheduled: Robert Black, Keith Williamson, Ted Tumbleson, Kevin Taylor, Glenn Schenk, Robert Miller, Matthew McDougal, James Loughrie, Edward Klausing, Jeffrey Hammons, Kevin Gehres, Kyle Fittro, Mark Figert, Brian Christopher, Chad Cupples, Shawn Cook, Gary Dilworth, Michael Dirr, James Haggerty, Ronald Joseph, Robert Garcia, Virginia Hammons, and Jackie Brandt, all Police Academy Assistants; Bruce Showalter, Police Academy Coordinator; Jackie Brandt, EMS Coordinator, Pete Weir, Trade and Industrial Programs Manager; Diane Meringleo-Dirksen, AE Enrollment Coordinator, Bradley Barton, Transitions Coordinator, Kristie Jones, AE Instructional Leader; Shirley Jarvis, Health Careers/STNA Coordinator; Ron Schumm, FBPA Coordinator/AE Instructor, Pam Knodel, Resource Center Attendant; Pat Vogel, AWS Testing, Brent Wright, AWS Testing, Theresa Mengerink, Proctor, Sarah Wuth, Proctor; and the following AE instructors: Kevin Hirschy, Amelia Miller, Patti Rodman, Gary Cearns, Jean Steele, Kari Casto, Shirley Jarvis, Mike Miller, Larry Ray, Linda Hartman, Lisa Bradley, Tonya Bunch and Michael DeMoss;
▪ Approved the list of Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES) certified evaluators, effective July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016: Ben Winans – Director, Mike Knott – Student Services Supervisor, Mary Ann Hall, CTE Supervisor, Ted Verhoff, CTE Supervisor;
▪ Approved the resolution for the use of Public School Works for required staff training;
▪ Accepted the Building Directors’ annual wellness reports based on the Wellness Committee review;
▪ Resolution declaring it necessary to levy a tax and requesting the county auditor to certify matters in connection with a proposed tax levy;
▪ Waived the districts 45-day notice prior to local government action regarding the Tax Incremental Finance (TIF) Agreement with Keber Cattle, LLC, 75% abatement for 10 years;
▪ Approved the Memorandum of Agreement with the Vantage Teacher’s Organization regarding the Technology Integration Specialist/Curriculum Coordinator work calendar;
▪ Approved the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) subgrant agreement with Van Wert County Department of Job and Family Services;
▪ Approved the Vantage Preschool fees for the school year 2015-16;
▪ Approved the 2015-16 Vantage Preschool manual;
▪ Approved the Avantage Salon & Spa price list for school year 2015-16;
▪ Accepted a donation of $100.00 from Beta Delta Chapter of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Convoy, Ohio, to be used for the preschool;
▪ Accepted a donation of $100.00 from Beta Delta Chapter of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Convoy, Ohio, to be used for the media center;
▪ Accepted a donation of automotive parts from Jeff Duncan, Vantage Career Center Automotive Technology Instructor, in the amount of $1170.00 to be used for the Automotive Technology program;
▪ Accepted the resignation of Reesa Rohrs for the purpose of retirement, Senior Health Technology Instructor, effective May 31, 2015;
▪ Approved the 2015-2016 Adult Education School Catalog and Student Handbook;
▪ Approved NEOLA new & revised policies as presented;

Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 121.22(G)(1), the Superintendent hereby requests that the Board adjourn to executive session for the purpose of considering the employment of an employee or official of the School District.
The next regular Board meeting will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the District Conference Room.
