Vantage Board of Education Meeting, October 6, 2022

October 17, 2022 by Adam Donaldson

The Vantage Board of Education held their October Board meeting on Thursday, October 6, 2022 in the
District Conference Room. During the board meeting, the minutes from the September 1, 2022 regular
board meeting were approved along with financial statements for the month of August, 2022.
Superintendent Rick Turner welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Sam Shriver with The Times
Bulletin, Scott Truxell with The VW Independent, Mr. Benjamin Winans, High School Director, Mrs. Angie
Fahy, Adult Education Director, and Mr. Dan Joyce, Science Instructor.

Mr. Turner also spoke about and highlighted the following items at the meeting:
➢ The 2022 Build Your Future event served approximately 600 9th and 10th graders from 7 of our
associate schools. Our staff and students did a great job in setting up the stations and coaching the
younger students in each activity. Feedback from the associate school administrators and staff was
positive. Overall, the planning team felt the event was very successful as well. We are already
having discussions regarding what next year’s event will look like.
➢ During the Vantage Day of Caring 106,916 items were brought in and 112 units of blood were
donated.
We are certainly honored to have the United Way rename the event to recognize Vantage. We really
appreciate our partnership with Vicki Smith and the United Way.
➢ Thirty-four (34) students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society this week
➢ Promoting has been on-going for the Vantage Career Center renewal levy. Early in-person voting
begins Wednesday, October 12th.
➢ 2021-2022 Credential Count
Credential Attainment
2017- 593
2018- 807
2019- 1,044 (23% increase)
2020- 959 (COVID-19 Shutdown)
2021- 1,071
2022- 1,312
It has taken much hard work and dedication by our staff and students to steadily increase this number and
we are very proud of them for their accomplishments in this regard. As you will see with our grade card from
last year, Vantage’s performance has been reaching higher and higher levels each year. The credential
count is up, the grade card shows continuous improvement, and enrollment has been steadily increasing
over the past few years. I believe Angie also has very positive news to report regarding the performance of
our adult education programs. We have an amazing staff and student body that work hard each day, and
these performance measures are a direct reflection of that hard work and dedication.

➢ Vantage Grade Card
Vantage High School Director Benjamin Winans thanked Gail Gillett for all of her work in collecting,
analyzing, and submitting the correct data for the Ohio School Report card. Gail is in continual talks with
teachers, students, and other members of the community to find what our former students are doing
since graduation. Mr. Winans reported that on Tuesday, October 4th, Vantage Career Center inducted new
members into the National Technical Honor Society.
Mr. Winans also reported the following upcoming events:
