
The Vantage Board of Education held their June Board meeting on Thursday, June 6, 2019 in the District Conference room. Central Mutual Insurance and Unverferth Manufacturing were both honored at the beginning of the meeting in recognition of them being named to the Ohio School Board Association’s 2019 Business Honor Roll. They were presented with a certificate and letter on behalf of Vantage Career Center and the Ohio School Board Association.
During the board meeting, Minutes from the May 2, 2019 regular Board meeting were approved along with financial statements for the month of April, 2019. A renewal of Participation Agreement with Ohio Schools Risk Sharing Authority was approved along with the 2020 Vantage Career Center Revised Tax Budget and the amended appropriations and revenues for FY19.
Superintendent Rick Turner updated the board on the priority issues currently in Columbus including the Governor’s budget proposal and the progress of SB89. Mr. Turner also acknowledged a great school year with many successes and mentioned preparations for next school year including Mr. Mike Knott taking over the role of High School Director and thanking Mr. Tony Unverferth for his time serving as Director over the past three years. Vantage High School Director Tony Unverferth thanked the staff for the 2018-19 school year and provided special thanks to those who assisted in setting up for the Senior Awards Ceremony. He updated the board on items occurring during the summer, such as scheduling, uniform fittings and obtaining lab supplies for next school year. Mr. Unverferth discussed the points system and it’s great success this year and concluded his report by thanking the board for their support during his time as Director.
Ohio Technical Center director Missy McClurg began by discussing the changes to the Practical Nursing handbook for the 2019-2020 school. She congratulated 13 high school students who successfully earned their class A CDL licenses. Mrs. McClurg acknowledged students who have earned scholarships to attend the OTC in the fall and spoke about the Police Academy graduation, along with the upcoming PNP and Medical Assistant graduations. She concluded by updating the board on the current enrollment numbers for next year.

➢ Resolution for Vantage Career Center to elect to become a member of the Southwestern Ohio Educational Purchasing Council (EPC), a Regional Council of Governments under Chapter 167 of the Ohio Revised Code.

➢ Resolution to accept the land purchase agreement between the Trustees of the Marsh Foundation, under the will of George H. Marsh, deceased and the Van Wert County Area Joint Vocational Board of Education, aka Vantage Career Center.
Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 121.22(G)(1), the Superintendent hereby requests that the Board adjourn to executive session for the purpose of discussing employment of an employee or official of the School District. No board action was taken.
