Vantage Early Childhood Education and Culinary Arts students competed in several contests during the Regional FCCLA contest and seven students earned the right to advance to the state competition.
The Culinary Arts Meeting Event Set-up Team is headed to Columbus for the state competition. Team members David Fisher (Paulding) and Derek Foy (Continental) joined forces to prepare a banquet room according to a Banquet Event Order that meets industry standards and anticipates guest needs within the specified time limit.
Five Early Childhood Education students are also heading to Columbus. The Early Childhood Team made up of seniors Devin Gerth (Van Wert), Mari Flint (Antwerp) and Megan Goins (Lifelinks) earned the gold medal for their work. In this contest, the team was required to plan a 2 hour and 30 minute block of lesson plans and graphics which revolved around the theme of “Friends” and present their ideas to a panel of judges. Junior Julia Clabough (Parkway) received a gold medal for her Curriculum Unit Development. Using the book, “Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes”, she was required to design 8 age-appropriate activities for preschoolers. Senior Ashley Bush (Continental) was awarded a gold medal for her Language & Literacy project, “Commotion in the Ocean”. In her contest, she presented the book and an activity – creating her own ocean in bottle – while in costume.
All of these students advance to the FCCLA state contests, which will be held April 23 and 24 in Columbus. Congratulations and Good Luck to all student competitors!
