June 7, 2023 by Adam Donaldson

The Vantage Board of Education held their June Board meeting on Thursday, June 1, 2023 in the
District Conference Room. During the board meeting, Minutes from the May 4, 2023 regular board
meeting were approved along with financial statements for the month of April, 2023. A resolution to
approve renewal of the Participation Agreement with Ohio Schools Risk Sharing Authority was approved,
a resolution to approve participation in the Better Business Bureau of Central Ohio Inc. Group
Retrospective Rating Program and Sheakley UniService was approved, the amended appropriations and
revenues for FY22 were approved, and a School Safety Grant in the amount of $3,020.26 was accepted.

Superintendent Rick Turner welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Sam Shriver with the
Times Bulletin and Mrs. Angie Fahy, Adult Education Director.
Mr. Turner also spoke about and highlighted the following items at the meeting:
➢ Our students received over $591,000 in scholarships this past year. Additionally, we have three
students receiving scholarships to begin programs in our Adult Education for next year. We are
very proud of our students and all that they have achieved. We are also very proud of our staff.
They continually push our students to higher levels, guiding, coaching, teaching and helping them
achieve great things and preparing them for a career and continuing education.
➢ Mr. Turner also noted that preparations continue for next school year with a couple of open positions
yet to fill. Two intervention specialists, a cafeteria cook, the Superintendent’s Secretary positions are
still open.
➢ Mr Turner also spoke about the State’s two year biennium budget process, which is currently in the
Senate for consideration. The budget must be signed by the Governor by June 30.
➢ Correspondence: “Thank You” from Brookhill Industries, Inc. to the BPA Chamber of Interactive
Media and Network Systems, and a “Thank You” from Mercer County Special Olympics to BPA
Chamber of Interactive Media and Network Systems.
➢ Preparations have begun for next school year. There are still a couple of positions to fill.
Per his written report, Vantage High School Director Benjamin Winans reported the following:
➢ As we wrapped up the year I just want to thank our entire staff for working together to make this
another successful year at Vantage. Personally, I enjoyed being able to see the continued growth
and success of our students over the course of the school year. The success you see our students
having is no accident as our staff works very hard to ensure our students are prepared for the next
step in their lives. Thanks to all for your continued hard work and dedication to Vantage Career
Center.
➢ Speaking of success, our annual Senior Awards Ceremony was again a very successful evening. We
recognized roughly 220 seniors who earned credentials, licensure, scholarships and academic
awards. Thank you to Van Wert City Schools for allowing us to utilize their facility for this event.
Without their support we would not be able to pull this ceremony off with the number of students
and guests that we have attending. Thank you to all our staff who also assisted in planning and
coordination of this event.
➢ Summer has arrived and we are off and running in regard to preparing for next school year. We
are working to fill a couple remaining open positions that we have in the high school and cafeteria.
Mrs. VanTilburg and Mr. Verhoff are set to measure the incoming juniors this coming week. As
soon as we get the transcripted credits from our associate schools we will begin building the
schedule for next school year. At this time, our enrollment looks to be very similar to last school
year and we will know more in regard to solid numbers once we get the final transcripts from the
associate schools.
