Vantage March Board Meeting Held

The Vantage Board of Education held the March Regular Board meeting on Thursday, March 2,
2023 in the District Conference Room. During the Board meeting, Minutes from the February 2, 2023
regular Board meeting were approved along with financial statements for the month of January, 2023.

Superintendent Rick Turner began the meeting by welcoming Sam Shriver with the Times Bulletin,
Mr. Benjamin Winans, High School Director, Angie Fahy, Adult Education Director, Mr. Larry Davis, Auto
Tech Instructor and students Jayce Schimmoeller (Lincolnview High School), Athena Fetters (Parkway High
School), and Mr. Jeff McIntosh, Van Wert County Treasurer (Chamber Leadership). Mr. Turner spoke
about the Taste of Vantage Open House which was held on Monday, February 27th. The Open House was
a huge success. The staff did an excellent job in preparing for the event and showing potential students,
parents, and the community at large what we do here at Vantage. We are so appreciative of the
businesses that participated and all of the community support that we receive each year for this event.
Mr. Turner also spoke about the recent Legislative conference in Columbus. During their visit with our
legislatures, they discussed the significant impact that Career Technical Education makes on the economy
by providing skilled workers for our businesses. With biennium budget negotiations in process, funding
for career centers and schools in general will be major points of discussion. The following are bills that
could dramatically affect the way that we do business:
● SB1- This is the bill that overhauls the Ohio Department of Education
● HB10- Cupp Patterson Funding
● HB1- Rollback Reduction Bill that could significantly reduce our funding ($1.2 Billion
reduction for schools and other government entities)
● HB11- Backpack Bill provides public funds for private schools

High School Director Benjamin Winans began his report by thanking Mrs. Miriam Owens, the
Vantage staff and student ambassadors for their volunteer efforts in making the Taste of Vantage Open
House a night for hundreds of former students, prospective students and their families, and the
community to come in and see everything that we have to offer. Mr. Winans also recognized Mrs. Wendy
Baumle and Mrs. Paula VanTilburg for their efforts in organizing the upcoming Red Cross blood drive here
at Vantage on March 29-31. Mr. Winans also mentioned the following upcoming events:

March 7-Junior ACT Testing/Senior Mock Interview
March 17-End of the 3rd Quarter
March 29-31-Vantage Bloodmobile in the Cup and Saucer

Adult Education Director Angie Fahy reported that Adult Education participated in the Taste of
Vantage Open House and all coordinators were available and interacted with guests. In the upcoming
months, Maria Diltz will be visiting the following High Schools and Career Fairs: Delphos Jefferson,
Delphos St. John’s, Lincolnview, Wayne Trace, Kalida, Continental, Antwerp, Paulding, Paulding County
Career Day on April 4th and Van Wert County Career Fair on March 9th. Mrs. Fahy also gave an update on
the following items: There is a new welding class beginning at the end of March, CDL State Financial Aid
applications are being reviewed and will be awarded in the next month or so, the Short-Term Certificate
Grant application will be open in March or April for next school year.
In new business, the Board approved the following Superintendent consent agenda items:
➢ Approved an administrative contract
➢ Approved Adult Education part-time hourly contracts
➢ Approved the change of start time of the Board of Education meetings for the remainder of this
year
➢ Approved a couple of overnight and out of state travel requests
➢ Approved the 2023-2024 Permanent Improvement Equipment list purchases
➢ Approved the 2023-2024 Governor’s Emergency Education Relief fund purchases for 2023-2024
➢ Approved the Adult Education program costs sheets for 2023-2024
➢ Accepted two (2) resignations
End of Superintendent’s Consent Agenda Items

In new business, the Board approved the following Superintendent outside consent agenda items:
➢ Approved one out of state field trip
End of Superintendent’s Outside Consent Agenda Items
Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 121.22(G)(5), the Superintendent hereby requests that the Board
adjourn into executive session for the purpose of considering personnel matters of the School District.

Education
