
The Vantage Board of Education held their September Board meeting on Thursday, September 1,
2022 in the District Conference Room. During the board meeting, the minutes from the August 4, 2022
regular board meeting were approved along with financial statements for the month of July, 2022. The
Treasurer was approved to transfer funds from the general fund FY/23 Goals, accept Perkins grant funds
through Apollo Career Center, accept the Paulding Putnam Electric Cooperative Round Up Grant and
accept the short-term certificate grant money from The Ohio Department of Higher Education. Permanent
appropriations and revenues for the FY23 were approved and the Chargepoint charging station pricing
was approved.
Superintendent Rick Turner welcomed the following guests to the meeting: Rebecca Violet with The
Times Bulletin, Scott Truxell with The VW Independent, Mr. Benjamin Winans, High School Director, Mrs.
Angie Fahy, Adult Education Director, Michelle Reinhart, Intervention Specialist, and Scott Shardelow,
Culinary Arts Instructor.
Mr. Turner also spoke about and highlighted the following items at the meeting:
➢ Vantage Career Center has an Operating Renewal Levy on the ballot this fall. This is a renewal so
there is no tax increase for the citizens. Without this money, Vantage would be in deficit spending
in the first year. Mr. Turner noted the cost to the taxpayer would be $18.87 annually on a $100,000
home.
➢ Final inspections are occurring this week on the interior renovation project.
➢ Preparations continue for the second Build Your Future event at the Van Wert County Fairgrounds
on September 20th and 21st from 9-12:00 each day. Our instructors and students play a
significant role in this event. Ninth and Tenth graders will get to experience Carpentry,
Construction Equipment Operations, Electricity, Welding, and HVAC. Come out and see our
students in action!
➢ We are in the process of applying for a safety grant through the state.
Vantage High School Director Benjamin Winans reported that the staff inservice days that took
place on August 18th and 19th were filled with diversity and safety training. The school year
opened on August 22nd and 23rd. Students are settling into their labs and classrooms. Associate
principal meeting will be Wednesday, September 28th. This year our points participation program,
“GOALS” will once again be in place.
Mr. Winans also reported the following upcoming events:

➢ Friday, September 9- Student Appreciation Day
➢ Friday, September 30- United Way/Vantage Day of Caring
➢ Tuesday, October 4- NTHS Banquet
➢ Wednesday, October 5- College Night
Adult Education Director Angie Fahy reported that the Vantage Career Center’s EMT class
participated in the water rescue training with the Van Wert Fire Department. The Bowling Green
EMT class finished with a 100% pass rate. Practical Nursing Program pinning ceremony was held
on August 9, 2022 and we had 9 graduates.
In new business, the Board:
➢ Approved employment for a cook, part-time cashier, and part-time custodian
➢ Approved a list of supplemental contracts for Virtual Graders
➢ Employed part-time adult education instructors
➢ Appointed Mr. Winans as the District Homeless Liaison
➢ Approved two mentors
➢ Approved one out of state and overnight travel
➢ Approved one certified OPES evaluator
➢ Accepted two resignations
➢ Approved a contract for online credit recovery services
