An early goal by visiting Miller City provided the difference in both teams Putnam County League Boys Soccer opener. Continental Pirates Goalie Konnor Knipp Williams was out of the game for a total of 82 seconds but that was when the only goal was scored. At the 36:10 of the game a Wildcat player received a yellow card for running in Knipp Williams which resulted in Knipp Williams leaving the game. The Wildcats put a pass across the goal at the 34:48 mark in the net for the game’s only goal. Knipp Williams returned to the game at that point and finished the game in the goal. The Pirates had a golden opportunity to score at the 8:54 mark when a shot by Collin Davis hit the top of the goal bar. Miller City 1-0 at half.
The second half was not boring but scoreless. The Pirates gained a man advantage at the 21:42 when a Wildcat player picked up his second yellow card of the game. But the Wildcats kept 4 players back on defense and although the Pirates got off a number of shots they were either saved or went just wide. Wildcats 1-0 final.
Konnor Knipp Williams had 2 saves on the night. The Pirates had 6 shots on goal to the Wildcats 3. Continental had 5 corner kicks to the Wildcats 1.
Continental falls to 2-2 (0-1 PCL) and will host Temple Christian on Tuesday. Miller City improves to 3-1-2 (1-0 PCL). Continental won the JV game 3-1.
Note on the game.. Huge crowd out on a perfect yet hot night, the game had to be stopped numerous times for hydration issues (cramping). Miller City sported Wyatt blue shirts in the pregame in support of the cancer battle Pirate Alum Wyatt Davis.
