In a letter sent out to TV 44 supporters, General Manager Kevin Bowers announced that after 33 years of hosting, the Annual Fundraising Auction at WTLW TV 44 has come to an end. Although the annual auction was well attended and was successful in raising funds, it also came at a cost of opportunity to the Christian station. Ending the Annual Auction was a difficult decision.
Some of the reasons listed for ending the auction was:
- It takes 3 to 4 months of activity that absorbs most of the staff’s time. View this an opportunity cost.. what more could the staff do with this time to meet the stations mission?
- The studio becomes a warehouse of items for the auction making it somewhat unusable for TV productions. This change will allow the studio to produce more TV shows year round.
- A noticeable decline of bids for household items. Purchasing patterns have changed over the years.
If you are a TV 44 viewer, please watch for other opportunities to support this ministry.
