Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love endures forever. –Psalm 107:1
On Saturday, November 18 at 4pm, drive-thru serving will begin for Christ United Methodist’s Annual Turkey Supper. This tradition has its roots back in the Great Depression when the ladies of the church on Continental’s South Main Street sold tickets for a chicken dinner as a fundraiser for their womens’ group. Over time, the meal included a turkey option which became more popular and the Turkey Supper tradition began. This meal has been held every year since (with a pause for Covid) with a menu of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, cranberry salad, applesauce and pie. Little has changed over the years other than adapting to a few modern conveniences and the result is still the same great tasting meal.
16 pans of dressing
2-1/2 bushels of apples
40 bags of cranberries
40 bunches of celery
500 lbs of turkey
125 loaves of bread
100 pies
…a partial list of the meal preparations. We hope your family and friends will enjoy this delicious meal. Serving is drive-thru only. Cost is by donation. Christ United Methodist Church is located on South Main Street in Continental. Hope to see you on Saturday!
