To celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, the largest operating steam locomotive in the world is making a historic Coast-to-Coast Tour and Continental is a stopping point! Big Boy No. 4014 started its Eastern Leg Tour on Memorial Day, May 25th in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The locomotive is making its way across the country to arrive in Philadelphia for their 4th of July celebration. Big Boy completed its Western Tour earlier this year traveling through California, Nevada and Utah. Many stops along the route are listed as “No Public Access” but that is not the case for Continental. Our town is listed as a “Whistle Stop”, one of its more than 40 such stops along the cross-country route. The scheduled stop in Continental is on Saturday, June 6 from 11:45am to 12:15pm and the train will then proceed on for a 15 minute stop in Fostoria.
Continental will also be a stopping point on Big Boy’s return trip across the country on Wednesday, July 15, 11:30am -12:30pm. The schedules for both trips are subject to change and the times could be earlier or later. To enable viewing access for all, the village will have parking restrictions on June 6th. For more information, visit Union Pacific Steam Schedule. Let’s make this fun! – please leave a comment with how many people you expect to visit our community for this Big Attraction!

Heya! My family and I were planning on driving over to see this stop from Selma, IN. However, we don’t know what we’re doing. LOL =) Do you have any tips or tricks for us? Parking? Where to eat? Where to see everything? It’s a 2.5 hour drive for us, so we’ll be leaving early and would like to get there by 10am ish. Is that enough time?
Thanks for any guidance!
