Continental has many hidden gems that most people don’t know about and presently one of the best kept secrets is Thursday evenings at the Continental American Legion. At 6:00pm, the Len Collier Band takes the stage for an evening of music, dancing, open mic, and fun. The Canteen staff comes around for dinner orders and drinks are get-your-own, by donation. There is also a 50-50 drawing to help with expenses.
Last Thursday, there were 130 people there from as far away as Toledo and St. Marys. The dance floor was a busy place and everyone had a great time. So great of a time that Len is taking his act on the road and will be at the Columbus Grove American Legion on the first and third Mondays of the month at 6pm starting Monday, July 18th. Bring your friends and come out for a great evening of fun and stay local!!

Way back in 1958 when I was in high school ,I had the privilege of working for Len Collier at the old Sinclair gas station before the Sohio station was built. I would come in after school and fix flat tires, pump gas, and wash cars. Len always saved the flat tires for me. $1.00 an hour and that was considered good pay.
Len was wonderful to work for and with. I learned a lot about customer relations and the role that a sense of humor plays in work and life success.
It is wonderful to see him still doing what he loves and bringing joy and activity to the old hometown. You can take the boy out of Continental; but you can’t take Continental out of the boy!

I’m glad to hear Len is still playing his music. I was back in Continental last summer (2015) for my 50th class reunion and heard him playing and was so surprised. I went up to him and introduced myself and asked if he remembered playing at my wedding back in Feb. 1968. He said he did. I remember we didn’t leave the dance early because everyone was having such a good time and we didn’t want to miss it. I have to say my marriage didn’t last as long (only 33 years), but glad to hear he’s still hanging in there and enjoying what he does. I try to come back every 5 years for sure, so hopefully in 2020 he’ll be playing strong. Thanks for the memories.
