Raymond C. “Shorty” Workman Jr., 1950 – 2018

CONTINENTAL – Raymond C. “Shorty” Workman, Jr., 67, of Continental, died 6:18 a.m., Sunday, April 29, 2018 at his residence. He was born December 23, 1950 in Defiance to the late Raymond C. Workman, Sr. and Esther Moore Selhorst. His step-father, Carl Selhorst is also deceased. On July 14, 1972 he married Adella Alvarado and she survives in Continental.

Also surviving are two daughters: Michelle (Mike Siebeneck) Schmitz of Kalida and Anita Workman of Downingtown, PA; six grandchildren: Alex Vorst, Kyle Vorst, Spencer Vorst, Mya Schmitz, Zoie Senn and Marrisa Senn; two sisters: Kathy Bishop of Ottawa and Chris (Mark) McDougle of Continental; and in-laws: Mary Scarberry, Margaret Alvarado, Rick Alvarado, Minnie Alvarado and Mike Good.

He was also preceded in death by a niece, Becky Trombley; and in-laws: Rick Bishop, Eve Esquivel, Jim Alvarado, Pete Alvarado, Gilbert Alvarado, Jose Alvarado, Elizabeth Good, Julie Bernal, and Alicia Alvarado.

Jr. retired from GM Powertrain in Defiance. He was a U.S. Army veteran in the Viet Nam war where he received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a member of the Local UAW 211, a former committeeman, Continental council member, Ducks Unlimited and game club member in Continental and Cloverdale. Jr. enjoyed trapshooting, golfing, hunting and going to grandchildren’s sporting events. He was an avid Ohio State and Detroit Tigers fan.

A funeral service will being at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Continental with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Following the funeral service there will be a military rites by the Continental American Legion. Burial will be at a later date in Monroe Cemetery, Continental. Visitation will be form 2-8 p.m., Tuesday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

Memorial donations may be given to Continental Library and Putnam County Hospice.
