On Tuesday the Lima Central Catholic – Continental girls soccer game started out in a somber mode as LCC asked for a moment of silence in remembrance of Tristan Selby. Tristan graduated last year and was a member of the 2013 Tbird soccer team. She passed away on Saturday.
The OSSCA Northwest Ohio Division III 5th ranked Thunderbirds (7-2-3) hosted the Pirates (8-4-1) on the fast field turf at Lima’s Spartan Stadium. Play started out fast and furious with the Tbirds having a number of opportunities just missed until a Sydney Santaguida lazer from 35 yards out went between the nets around the 23rd minute. LCC expanded their lead to 2-0 with an Amanda Fisher goal at the 12:42 mark in the first half. The Pirates then settled down and had a couple of solid chances to end the first half LCC 2 Continental 0.
The second half showed a more aggressive Pirate team as they started with a couple of near misses in the first 4 minutes. The remainder of the game was scoreless leaving the Tbirds as the 2-0 winner.
Emma Recker and Ashley Mansfied were goalies for the Pirates.
The Pirates travel to Ottoville on Thursday as they continue on their PCL schedule. This game has a start time of 6pm.
